Wet, but not rained off. After all, we gardeners needed the rain!

The Grand Opening Event was distinguished by rain. Lots of it. However, this didn’t put us off as we had been preparing for weeks.

We had a great turnout despite the weather, with lots of curious locals coming to find out what we are up to, and to see how the site has been transformed.

We got some great feedback;

“Really inspiring project”

“Wow, I can’t believe how the site has developed since last year”

“That is the best chard I have seen growing anywhere, ever”

and finally,

“Love the rocket stove and thanks for the tea”.

Thanks to all who braved the weather. For those that came they were rewarded with delicious chai made on our new rocket stove, warming curries from Ganapati and lashings of home made cake.

The day was rounded off with our celebratory tree planting to mark the launch of the garden. Local children planted a home grown loquat to help provide a shady spot in years to come.

As yet the garden won’t be fully open. As volunteers we cannot yet staff the site, and it is still too vulnerable to leave open to all and sundry without our presence.

If you are a local group who’d like to get involved as a stakeholder, or just someone interested in helping out, please email us at

We meet on site between 1 and 3pm on sundays

Last, but certainly not least – thank you to everyone who has helped get us this far with so much fun, learning lots along the way and transfroming this little corner of Peckham.
